Regretful Santa

This year Santa took the plunge and delivered a Wii gaming system as the "big" gift for our three little cherubs.  It was a choice made with the best of intentions.

Given that they have enjoyed playing on the PS2, Santa thought it would be cool to have something updated that would allow for more than 2 players.  The Wii seemed like a nice fit-- plenty of age appropriate options for younger players, a decent price point (Santa has a budget too!), and appealing as family entertainment.  If you MUST stare at a screen, it's best to do so in the company of others, right?

Santa did have some misgivings-- it is still on the pricey side, will it lead to even MORE screen time?, is it encouraging the wrong activity?-- you can hear the internal debate.  But the kids all talk about it and the other preferred choice was the DS.  Santa did NOT have the budget for 3 of those soooo, it came down to the Wii.

How delusional a choice it has turned out to be.  The Wii seems to lead to many smackdowns arguments.

All 3 might very well be playing but there is always someone who isn't doing whatever they are supposed to be doing in whatever way they are supposed to be doing it.  There is fighting over who is the "controller"...fighting over which game to play...and the main game that was included "Skylanders" is, of course, only a TWO player game.  Son of a nutcracker...

The threat has been issued:  Santa, who is very modern, can be contacted via email or text and the Wii can be returned to a local store.  I hate this type of solution but after yesterday's absolute insanity, it's the only viable option. Opportunities for improvement will be available over this weekend but come Monday, without significant attitudinal adjustments, the Wii's presence in our household will no longer be required.

I really hate ultimatum parenting but sanity is a gift I plan to hold onto.  If you read a farewell post on Monday, you will know that the Wii has left the building.
