Fun Fact Friday!

I am stealing this idea from several people...I give you 10 random facts that are hopefully fun to read.

1. I have been to Space Camp. Yes, the real deal in Huntsville, Alabama. I went in my 20's because my co-worker won a contest at work. We promised we would take the other one if either of us won...so she won and we went! It was pretty cool- if not a bit geeky. And some of the adults there were, um, interesting. But we had a great time and we got to simulate "missions" to space. On one of them, I was the "Captain/Commander" in mission control and it was definitely cool. Outer space was always one of the more interesting science topics for me.

2. I have known Mike since we were 15 years old-- although I wouldn't necessarily call us high school sweethearts because we didn't date seriously until college.

3. I have seen U2 perform live MANY times. The furthest I have traveled to see them is New Orleans- which was an awesome trip even without the concert. The last one I went to was when I was about 2 months pregnant with Michael..so he experienced the magic in utero.

4. I have horrible stage fright but at the same time, I sort of love being on a stage. I have randomly been on stage singing with various cover bands. I sang in a little bar in London once-a U2 song of course. At my bachlorette party, I sang "Laid" by James (the band was really nice to me!). It is just too much fun--even though my heart is pounding the entire time & who knows if I sound good or not. Drunk people are not reliable critics.

5. MamaK and I went to college together and as she recently commented, we used to do airband to U2's "Desire". Oh man, that was so fun...again, I would be petrified but would do it anyway. I think we even had show times and would get our friends together for our "performance". That is definitely one of my best college memories.

6. In college, I started out as a Psychology/Secondary Education major. I stayed with the education track until my senior year--a few weeks into my last semester, I had an epiphany that I was in NO way cut out to be a teacher. At least, not in the formal sense of the word. I literally called out of the high school where I was student teaching, drove home, sorted things out with my parents and then returned to college to re-arrange my schedule. Luckily, I had plenty of credits for a straight Psychology major & graduated on time. I make this sound all easy but I was so upset- I didn't tell anyone I was going home, I just went.

7. Mike's idea contributions for this post are to tell you a)When I sleep, my mouth is shaped in an "O", b)I sleep with socks on, and c)that sometimes when I laugh, I snort. I'm really glad these are points of interest for my hubby!

8. I still have my "lovie" from when I was a child. It was a pale yellow blanket with a silk edge. All that is left is the silky edge...it is in a drawer in my bedroom. I tried to throw it out when I was in 9th grade and my mom told me to save it, so I did. It used to be under my pillow- when I would have cramps in high school, I would roll it up in a ball and stick it under my shirt against my stomach...worked like a charm! While I no longer require that 'security', I am so glad I kept it.

9. As much as I used to be a music snob with my alternative, indie music tastes (I still am sometimes), I am now also a sucker for a good pop song- Kelly Clarkson, Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani...anything like that, I usually go for it. I can't really get into that Lady Gaga chick. But her songs are catchy!

10. I have to include one thing related to parenting--I love to make up silly songs to sing to Michael and Liam. My latest "hit" is "God Bless My Little Boys" (to the tune of God Bless America). I started singing it on a whim & made up the words as I went along...they FREAK OUT over it- don't ask me why! Little boys who love their mama aren't the most reliable critics either ;)

Happy Friday!

I would have TOTALLY sung James' Laid at a Bachelorette party - that song is SWEET. But I've also fallen for the pop stuff (I don't think I was ever truly a music snob, though).

We also make up songs all the time, and we crack ourselves up as much as the kids.

Glad to hear that you have your lovie. Katy is SO SO attached to her blanket, and it's wearing out quickly. I keep telling Brian it's going to be a ball of thread in her marriage bed.

I love FFF!

SPACE CAMP? YOU ARE THE COOLEST.

We "visited" space camp on a roadtrip when I was little. By "visted," I mean that my Dad pulled into the parking lot, let us walk around, and then informed us that's the closest to space camp we would ever get. (Sounds mean, but actually he's not mean that way, just honest.) I was forever envious of space campers.
