A Pretty Clean Slate

Well, I did it- took the personal day, took the boys to daycare and came home to do some pretty serious cleaning. While my goals turned out to be a bit too lofty, I got enough done to feel good & have a 'to do' list that Mike and I can both work on. BTW, Mike is pretty good with taking care of housework- as long as he has a list to work from. He pretty much always cleans the bathroom and vacuums the staircase- both of which I hate doing.

Our house is not big at all...but it took me a long time to take care of the upstairs (3 bedrooms) and I really didn't too much to our bedroom because I was running short on time and still needed to deal with the downstairs. Kids just acquire SO MUCH STUFF and then you have to pull out old clothes and pack up baby toys, etc. It's just so time-consuming...but I stayed focused today instead of running around in a million different directions. It's nice to know I can still focus when given a moment of quiet. Overall, I am happy with the results. I just need to finish up our bedroom and some parts of the kitchen.

I missed the boys a little bit but fought the urge to go pick them up at lunch time- it would have thrown off their naps and that wouldn't have been good for them or me! Plus, I am now looking forward to the 3-day weekend and am happy to know that I won't really have any pressing tasks other than to enjoy time with family and friends.

I do realize that this feeling of accomplishment will fade and it will feel more like an exercise in futility. Because by tomorrow evening, it will all look like a tornado hit and I will wonder why I wasted an entire day cleaning...C'est la vie!

Enjoy the moment of clean. And the packing up clothes job? That is a time-consuming one. I find it really hard to get that done. But once I do a good sweep of the boys drawers, I can put that job off for another 9 months.

Great job with the cleaning!

I don't know if you have room for this, or if, um, "helpful" suggestions are not appreciated. . . but I keep a tub for outgrown clothes in each of the kids' closets - when I notice something is getting small I'll wash it and then toss it in the tub instead of hanging it or throwing it back in the drawer. As the tubs fill I write the size range on them and throw them in the basement.

Feel free to disregard the above if it makes you want to kick me in the teeth!

I'm glad you had a day to get a layer of dirt off - I feel like our house won't be clean clean again until the kids are off at college!

Advice is ALWAYS appreciated here...I do use bins but had recently run out of them. I just got a couple new ones and am back in that very good habit. Thanks for the suggestion!! Also, clean is a relative term- my idea of clean might not measure up to some & I agree about the college thing--and then they will just grub it up when they are home on the occasional weekend (I can only hope!!!).

Oh, I'm going to be just a leetle jealous picturing your sparkling clean house for a moment - yay! Right now I've got this mindset that I might as well let it go, we'll be moving in a month, right? So the place is rapidly going downhill. But I'm looking forward to the organizing and purging that moving forces on us.
