Cooking is a lost art...

Apparently, no one who reads here cooks much because I got ZERO response to my recipe request...ugh! So I guess I just have to rely on good old Google to get me some ideas. Oh well!
If I find anything interesting, I will definitely share :)

I am just so sick of fixing/eating the same stuff week after week. And I find that when we put alot of effort into dinner, Mike and I enjoy it but the boys barely touch it. I just want to be able to feed them in a semi-healthy way and if we have the occasional McD's or everything breaded type dinner, it's not the end of the world.

So let's see, I haven't been inspired to blog as of late but have enjoyed reading everyone else's updates and news. I hope to have more interesting things to talk about in the near future!

Good Night :)

well-- I don't know if I mentioned this to you before, or if it's kid friendly-- but I LOVE LOVE LOVE crockpot curry chicken. Dump a bunch of chunked chicken (boneless is easier- you decide how big you want the piece) into the crockpot. Add a can of coconut milk, a can of diced pineapples (juice and all), 1-3 cut up sweet potatoes, some green peppers and - if you want- some onion. Adjust the amount of each ingredient by how much you like it. Add a tsp of curry paste, or a bunch of shakes of the powdered stuff... YUM.

If you want, you can try subbing the coconut milk for evap milk and using cinnamon instead of curry. I'm just guessing that might taste good, though!

Do you use Bisquick? their recipe for cheeseburger pie is pretty good. i haven't made it in ages, though. OOOH- you could do cheeseburger pasta, if you wanted. let the boys add shredded cheese to the top! and i also love shepherd's pie-- saute soem meat, mix with corn, top with (instant mixed) potatoes, bake for... ? 20 min ? but that's 2 steps!

I've got a few easy crockpot meals...like put a box of wild rice, 2 cans of cream of chicken soup, 1 1/2 cups water, and a bunch of baby carrots and mix them in the crock pot. Lay as many chicken breasts as you want on top and coat them with the rice mixture. Cook in crock pot 7-8 hours on low. Voila! Chicken, rice, and carrots all cooked to perfection for dinner when you get home! No prep ahead of time.

I have a pork chop recipe as well, but it takes a little morning prep...so I don't know how good that would be for your schedule.

Sorry about not helping on the cooking front. I feel like that is a DAILY struggle for me. I feed my boys whole grain bagels & cream cheese for dinner like 4 nights a week. Not kidding. Throw in some green beans, fresh fruit, a roll of string cheese, and some frozen meatballs and you have PERFECT CHILD DINNER. I like to think of it as my "emergency response dinner" but that response occurs more often than not.

(The meatballs are fully cooked, frozen, then I microwave them... just to be clear that I'm not feeding the actual FROZEN version to my boys.)

I feel like I have a bunch of fairly easy recipes I could send, but I'm worried that they won't be healthy enough? We do a lot of cooking with cheese! Email me if you're interested and I can send you our "go to" family recipes.

Clearly, I need to get into the crock pot--to be fair MamaK, you did mention the crock pot before. I have always boycotted it. LOVE Bisquick (and also breakfast for dinner). I think I need to resume better meal planning but keep the suggestions coming because they are all good :) Thanks Ladies!

There is a website called whatsfordinner.com. perhaps that would be helpful. One thing that I did was to make a menu for the week on Sunday. Even if it didn't completely work out, I had ideas for everyday. Good luck.
