I made the vest and hat. I'm really happy with how it turned out...I don't sew and don't own a sewing machine. So the minimal stitching was done by hand by yours truly.
(stitching on the hat and on the vest--I'm also impressed that I actually cut a vest that fit, with arm holes, after only one practice run)
We also used pirate pants from a pirate costume from 2 years ago & a regular white shirt.
I know it's nothing spectacular but Michael was happy (eventually) and thanked me. I highly recommend heavy felt if you have to make anything b/c you don't have to finish the edge and it's very easy/simple to work with. And cheaper than purchasing a whole extra costume. I also had a rotary cutter and guide from the one time that I made a quilt (I had LOTS of help and access to a sewing machine at the time).
