Simple
I am a far-from-perfect mother. A far-from-perfect human being.
Lately, I feel like I've had close to zero patience with everyone and everything.
In the process of losing my patience, I think I've hurt people's feelings.
Not on purpose, but still.
I hate the feeling of losing at the end of each day
and when some of those days get strung together, that feeling grows exponentially.
Luckily, tonight, I managed to get one thing right.
During our very late bedtime, I agreed to hold Chloe and rock her a bit while we sang some of our favorite songs.
Among the things I sing to her is a song called "Simple Gifts". She can now sing it with me.
I'm pretty sure it's originally a Quaker song and I think it's so pretty and has such a peaceful message.
And when we sing it, it makes me feel like everything is right with the world.
'Tis the gift to be simple, 'tis the gift to be free
'Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
It will be in the valley of love and delight.
When true simplicity is gain'd,
To bow and to bend we shall not be asham'd,
To turn, to turn will be our delight,
Till by turning, turning we come 'round right

I love that song! I have a beautiful version of it with Alison Krauss singing. I also have the Yo Yo Ma instumental version. The lyrics are so perfect.
great song, and great tradition too. :) just looked up the version Erin mentioned- wow. thanks :)
