I can't believe I posted on June 10th and failed to mention the best part about that day-- Michael turned SEVEN!!
It blows my mind that he has finished up first grade and is just growing by leaps and bounds.
I notice that as the kids get older, it's harder to capture and write about their snapshot in time-- who they are, what they do, details about personality/interests/quirks. Maybe it's because the milestones are of a different variety and some are more subtle?
Here is my attempt :)
Dear Michael,
At SEVEN, you are curious, energetic, strong-willed, fun-loving and at times, very complicated.
I feel like I can't write about the true you without acknowledging that we still have some struggles to overcome. You can have a very short fuse, act impulsively and have a tendency to sweat the small stuff. I know that some of this is to be expected but sometimes, it's a little more than the "average bear". We are working on it! And most importantly, I know that YOU are working on it.
The silver lining to those struggles? You are persistent, willing to try new things, energetic, creative and quick to suggest solutions to problems. You like to jump right in and be involved with whatever is going on.
You are a fast learner and actually set to be tested for the gifted program- pretty exciting because I know you love a challenge! You are so versatile in your interests. You love being outside, having a catch, playing wiffle ball, riding your scooter or bike, playing freeze tag, visiting the various local playgrounds. You are pretty much up for anything involving the outdoors, including gardening and yard work.
You also love drawing and music. You and Liam were in a musical play back in April- you loved it and did a great job. You also love to draw and are pretty good at it! You and your brother will be taking a week-long art class at the end of the month. I'd love for you to learn to play an instrument but we'll see what happens with that. You LOVE building with Legos and are good at following the directions to get to the finished product. You are also known to build your own original creations and it's fun to see what you come up with.
The thing we haven't been able to do consistently is get you involved in a sport. I see baseball or soccer in your future, since you have expressed an interest in both. I'd also like to get you back into swim lessons this summer- you definitely love the water!
As a big brother to 2, you really do a great job. Of course there are times when you all get on each other's nerves but Liam remains your favorite playmate and you do a good job of including Chloe (who can be alot to handle!!). You are still great at cheering on your siblings and often comfort them when they are upset. Both Liam and Chloe love you so much and I hope the three of you are always close.
I can't possibly capture all the little things that make you who you are but I hope you always know how loved you are!!
I love you with all my heart Michael!!
Love,
Mommy
P.S.- Of course I can never forget to tell you- You're the one who made me a Mommy!
