January Updates

*Chloe's new name is "Godzilla" or "Destructor".  She lives to take apart the track of the train table and place the pieces in various locations.  She also likes to knock down or dismantle any creations made by her siblings.  After months of having toys snatched from her tiny hands without warning, she now issues blood curdling screams when mugged.  She actually made Liam cry one day by screaming in his face.  If you are close enough, you might also enjoy a smack on the head.  We are obviously not encouraging this but you know, it's payback time.  In other news, I disagree with the idea that boys talk later while girls talk earlier.  In our case, it does not hold true.  Chloe is taking her time with her words.  I think she is so focused on physical stuff that the speech is taking a backseat right now.  I just scheduled her 15-month well check for Valentine's Day...poor baby- Happy Valentine's Day--here's some fun vaccinations!!  She has done okay with them so far.

*Liam is doing so great with his speech therapy.  I can really hear a difference in his pronunciation.  I also think he really enjoys having one-on-one time that's just for him.  Michael is very jealous that Liam gets to do this extra thing but he has come to terms with it & we usually read stories or do a little preschool workbook while waiting during the 30min session.  Liam is also on the (rocky) road to potty training although we had 3 poop-in-the-pants events over the weekend.  This is the same kid who one night, got out of bed on his own & pooped on the potty- not calling me until he needed wiped.  The pee thing has been good- he is usually dry in the morning and gets right on the potty.  I think we had one pee in the underwear.  I am hoping that we can get this all together in the next month.

*Michael is growing up right before my eyes.  While he is still a bit of a spaz, he is slowly learning how to calm himself and not flip out over small things.  It is also easier to get him back on track if he does start to throw a tantrum.  His conversation skills amaze me and he plays the big brother role perfectly when it comes to cheering on his siblings when they are doing something new.  It is so sweet to see. I can hardly believe this guy will be starting Kindergarten this fall...CRAZY!!!  I will miss him so much but I can tell he will be ready for that next experience.

*Our big issue with lack of compliance (meaning- children driving me bat-shit crazy every day) has subsided back to normal levels.  I no longer feel like Michael is out of control.  So I am hopeful that it was just a phase.  Maybe all the holiday stuff was just too much?  It could also just be a matter of finding what works after lots of trial and LOTS of error.  I am happy to not be so stressed.  How long it continues, only time will tell!

I still have post ideas swirling in my head but I've gotten back into reading actual BOOKS and that is taking up my evening time right now.  The post holiday slow down is suiting me just fine.  Mike and I have managed to have real conversations and even watch some movies (without interruption!).  We just watched "The Hurt Locker" which was very good.  I even got out to a real movie theater with my mom on a SATURDAY night.  We saw "Country Strong" and while I didn't like all of the ending, it was a good film.  I am a big fan of Gwyneth Paltrow & I liked how she played the role in an understated way.

It's pretty much business as usual around here :)
