Birthdays and Traditions

Michael is FIVE as of June 10th...I'm not ready to write about it just yet.  I'll get there!  But when birthdays come around, these are the two traditions we've started that I love the most...

Every birthday, I get out the Lenox knife/server set that we used to cut our wedding cake.  We use it to cut and serve the birthday cake- whoever might be celebrating a birthday with us.  My mom always did the same thing and I always loved it- it made everything feel extra special and important.  It also prevents the wedding knife from sitting in a closet all packed up- and it still retains a special purpose.

Ever since Michael's first birthday, we have "birthday waffles" (or pancakes) in the morning.  You get a candle lit in your waffle and "Happy Birthday" is sung...you even get whipped cream if we have it on hand.  It's almost better than actual Happy Birthday sung with cake.  We originally did it when Mike was working in the evenings so he might miss the festivities if we waited until dinnertime.  Now it's just what we do because it's fun :)

Next will be my little Liam turning FOUR on the 20th...these boys of mine are getting BIG and it's my pleasure and privilege to guide them and watch them grow.  I just wish we could slow things down a bit!
