Michael 6

6/10/2012

Dearest Michael,

Six years old!  I love writing these notes to you but I hope not to be too repetitive.  So much has changed but in some ways, so much is the same.

You really have grown so much this year, with Kindergarten being a big part of that.  I know you really enjoyed being part of a class and you ended up with such a fantastic teacher- she knew just how to help you get over the rough patches and make sure you learned everything you needed to know (and MORE!).

Watching you evolve into a true reader has been fantastic.  Hearing about your daily experiences in the classroom, knowing that you were making new friends, gaining some independence- it made me feel so proud of you.  I know this is only the beginning and I'm glad you got off to such a good start.

You continue to be close to your brother and sister...even though Chloe drives you nuts at times.  You are a great big brother.  I know you want more independence at home, to have more responsibility.  I am working to find a way to do that without alienating your younger siblings--especially Liam who doesn't want to miss a thing.  We continue to run into some tantrum type issues (more recently, they have spiked again).  I think some of this is caused by you feeling frustrated and like we are still treating you like a "baby".  Daddy and I are working on that sweetie, I promise!  I think a chore chart is in your future and perhaps a small allowance too.

You had the chance to try out lacrosse for the first time this spring and you did a great job.  Not exactly an easy sport to pick up, you got some basic moves down & I think you really enjoyed the challenge.  I'm not sure if you will stick with it or try another sport but either way, we will support what your interests.

There are so many things I want to be able to give you the chance to do but right now we have to pick and choose activities.  I just want you to be able to try out everything and find things that you truly love.  For now, we have the summer ahead of us and I love having so much time with you!!

We love you Michael- for your sense of humor, your caring nature, your spunk and confidence, your hugs, your mischief and your laugh.  Our first born...I hope we can keep teaching you as much as you are teaching us.

Happy SIX!!

Love,
Mommy

P.S.- I had to come back and add this: "You're the one who made mommy a Mommy!"
