Today...

When I left my house this morning, there was Michael-pee on my mattress- my mattress that did have a mattress cover on it but not a waterproof one-doh! Our mattress is 2 months younger than Michael BTW.

My pee-infected sheets were piled up on the floor at the top of my basement steps. Pee-soaked PJ's were hanging over one our little potty chairs. A stuffed dog and an extra sheet were also innocent victims.

Thanks to Michael throwing multiple tantrums about various things this morning, I didn't have time to do any damage control...I didn't even treat the mattress itself with any sort of cleaner. I was 30 minutes late for work based on Michael's behavior alone. He was no doubt embarrassed about peeing in the bed- although Mike & I both assured him it would be okay, that accidents happen, etc.

I can't begin to tell you how MUCH it bothered me to leave my house this way. I wanted to take the boys to school, call out a sick day and then come home and sanitize all pee-infected items as appropriate...but obviously I couldn't do that.

I really hate it when days begin this way. It makes me question why these sort of things have to happen? If Michael was going to wet the bed, why not his which is a toddler bed with a crib mattress AND a waterproof cover..way easier to clean? Or couldn't it have been on a Saturday or Sunday morning when at least I could have taken the time to address the mess right away? Rather than have it nagging at the back of my mind all day? Why didn't we just put a pull-up on him??

Fast forward to the late afternoon when of course, I left work late, dinner took a long time to get together and by the time I actually got to address the mattress, it was creeping up on 7:00pm. This is when the internet becomes even more awesome...

Luckily, I found a cleaning solution idea online, had the right ingredients on hand and proceeded with the process without too much trouble. It is now 9:38 and the mattress does not seem to smell like urine...it is almost dry...luckily I didn't really have to wet it down too much and a small fan blowing directly on the affected area is doing the trick.

I purchased a WATERPROOF mattress pad today because I am SO not reliving this if I can avoid it at all. I am thinking I might have to redo the treatment process to insure that the urine smell is completely gone but the fact that I think we can sleep in our bed tonight without it smelling like a urinal is a VERY good thing.

I wish I could learn to not let things like this get the best of me...it's only a mattress, it's not that bad. I'm working on it, really I am. But if I am being honest, this sort of BS bugs the piss out of me!!!

Two completely unrelated and positive things:
*Doctor's appointment today revealed healthy weight gain, strong heartbeat, pregnancy perking along.
*Good friends of ours welcomed their 3rd child, a baby boy this evening at 5:18pm...we haven't gotten all the details but it sounds like everyone is healthy--which is the most important thing.

So it wasn't all bad today...
but I seriously hope that I don't have to deal with pee in our bed anytime soon.

It always seems like big messes happen when you have absolutely NO TIME to clean them up. Hate it! Such is life, I guess.
