I hate when you are trying to setup a play date with someone (initiated by that someone) and they say something like, "Tell me what days work for you next week".
So you send them 3 out of 5 days of availability
(or 60% availability for those of you who like percentages)
Then they say, "Oh, sorry, none of those days work for me."
Or better yet...you get NO response at all for over a week.
?????
First of all: If you don't want to get together, then don't ask in the first place or just say no if I initiate.
Second of all: If you have a busy week coming up, then just say so or send me your availability first.
I understand that things come up for all of us...many people have super-packed schedules. We are not one of those families at this point. Just don't make me feel like I am wasting my time.

Today...
When I left my house this morning, there was Michael-pee on my mattress- my mattress that did have a mattress cover on it but not a waterproof one-doh! Our mattress is 2 months younger than Michael BTW.
My pee-infected sheets were piled up on the floor at the top of my basement steps. Pee-soaked PJ's were hanging over one our little potty chairs. A stuffed dog and an extra sheet were also innocent victims.
Thanks to Michael throwing multiple tantrums about various things this morning, I didn't have time to do any damage control...I didn't even treat the mattress itself with any sort of cleaner. I was 30 minutes late for work based on Michael's behavior alone. He was no doubt embarrassed about peeing in the bed- although Mike & I both assured him it would be okay, that accidents happen, etc.
I can't begin to tell you how MUCH it bothered me to leave my house this way. I wanted to take the boys to school, call out a sick day and then come home and sanitize all pee-infected items as appropriate...but obviously I couldn't do that.
I really hate it when days begin this way. It makes me question why these sort of things have to happen? If Michael was going to wet the bed, why not his which is a toddler bed with a crib mattress AND a waterproof cover..way easier to clean? Or couldn't it have been on a Saturday or Sunday morning when at least I could have taken the time to address the mess right away? Rather than have it nagging at the back of my mind all day? Why didn't we just put a pull-up on him??
Fast forward to the late afternoon when of course, I left work late, dinner took a long time to get together and by the time I actually got to address the mattress, it was creeping up on 7:00pm. This is when the internet becomes even more awesome...
Luckily, I found a cleaning solution idea online, had the right ingredients on hand and proceeded with the process without too much trouble. It is now 9:38 and the mattress does not seem to smell like urine...it is almost dry...luckily I didn't really have to wet it down too much and a small fan blowing directly on the affected area is doing the trick.
I purchased a WATERPROOF mattress pad today because I am SO not reliving this if I can avoid it at all. I am thinking I might have to redo the treatment process to insure that the urine smell is completely gone but the fact that I think we can sleep in our bed tonight without it smelling like a urinal is a VERY good thing.
I wish I could learn to not let things like this get the best of me...it's only a mattress, it's not that bad. I'm working on it, really I am. But if I am being honest, this sort of BS bugs the piss out of me!!!
Two completely unrelated and positive things:
*Doctor's appointment today revealed healthy weight gain, strong heartbeat, pregnancy perking along.
*Good friends of ours welcomed their 3rd child, a baby boy this evening at 5:18pm...we haven't gotten all the details but it sounds like everyone is healthy--which is the most important thing.
So it wasn't all bad today...
but I seriously hope that I don't have to deal with pee in our bed anytime soon.

Opposites Attract?
I always thought that 'positive breeds positive' but now I am thinking more along the lines of positive ATTRACTS negative.
Remember that whole "looking on the bright side" type post from 2 days ago?
I take it all back!
Just kidding but I have to tell you that one of the things that makes it hard for me to keep an optimistic outlook is that I always seem to get a money-whammy just as we are starting to creep towards stability...and it's almost always in the form of a car repair.
...sigh...
I was driving to a work appointment today. Our '02 Ford Explorer was making this weird, dragging type of sound and the 4x4 light was flashing rapidly. It sounded worse and worse as I drove, trying to figure out what to do. I made a snap decision to call the coworker I was meeting for the appointment to see if she could cover it and then drove to the nearest dealer (who we happen to have had a bad experience with but really what could I do?).
Luckily, they were able to assess the problem. Turns out the 4 wheel drive sensor was beat so the 4 wheel drive was going on/off randomly. $545.00 later, the car is fixed. But that's ALOT of money in our world. And we don't have an emergency fund or an available credit card. So, thanks for the loan Mom and Dad! I feel like such a deadbeat daughter.
It could have been worse but consider that we put approx $2000 into this car LAST year and the grand total just sucks. I hate putting money into a car but we had no choice. We can't possibly get a new car right now and we still owe money on this one. So you can see how I am not quite so chipper today but it's done and life goes on. I made it through the day without crying so that's a step in the right direction :)
Good Thoughts:
*If my opposites attract theory is correct, then tomorrow it should be my turn for positive, right? Is that a vicious cycle? Let's hope not!
*My Mom helped with this one- at least my car didn't break down in the middle of no where! Plus I was close to her work so she was able to pick me up and I borrowed her car to take Liam to the doctor. Have I mentioned that my Mom (and Dad) are awesome?
*Tonight, Michael told me he wanted to give me a kiss "all by himself" and he planted one right on my lips, making our 'smoochie' sound which sounds like MMMMwah! It was so sweet!
*Liam is usually one who likes to settle himself at night. But he has been under the weather and a little crabby. Tonight I danced with and sang to him to help him settle (to our U2 lullaby cd of course!) and he fell asleep with his beautiful head on my shoulder.
