Blog-i-quette?

I received some VERY nice comments from Erin and Emily on my last two posts. Thank you ladies- your words are comforting and supportive and I SO appreciate you taking the time to put my mind at ease. I just said to Mike, these people have never even met me and yet they take time out of their busy lives to reassure me...there really are some amazing people in this world.

This brings me to a question...if someone comments on your blog and you would like to respond in some way (to answer a question, to comment further, to thank them for their sweetness, etc.) what is the appropriate method? When it is someone who you don't email, should you:
a) Write a new post about it
b) Comment further under the same post on your own blog
c) Comment on the next post you read on their blog
OR
d) It depends on the topic/situation and any of those options is appropriate

Here are the problems I see with each option:
a) Sometimes your followup comment is brief and does it really warrant a new post?
b)What if they never go back and read other comments on your now old post?
c)What if you annoy/confuse their readers with your out of context comment?

d)Am I a lunatic who has given this far too much thought?

Well, Michael and Liam are sleeping and haven't reported any ghost sitings in over 12 hours so what else can I stress about tonight? LOL!

That's a good question! In my experience, if someone receives a TON of comments on a particularly heavy post, they might do another post as kind of a response/reaction to all the comments. If you just want to respond to one person's comment, I see people doing both of the other options. I see people comment on their own blog in response to another person's comment, but personally I don't go back and read the comments again after I commented. SO if I want to make sure that someone reads a response that I have to their comment, I go and make a comment on their blog. It may seem out of context, but I'll usually just say something about it so others don't think I'm crazy. But I'm sure they do anyway. :) (How many times can I say the word "comment" in my comment?)

I've often wondered the same thing...
