Brief update

Just to update: The fires continue including 3 fires all around 5am on Saturday morning. The latest speculation is that this is part of some sort of gang initiation. Which is likely to be the case but who knows? I continue to have ALOT of anxiety around this- which is why I am still up at 1:20am. Luckily, I don't have work tomorrow. Please pray that this plague will leave us soon because I have never been so actively afraid and I have lived in this area pretty much my whole life.

Let's see, what can I tell you that isn't so gloom&doom? Well, the Eagles lost today so no Superbowl for the Philly team but I am not a big football fan so while I was sad to see them lose, I wasn't all that invested in it. Now when we get to the Stanley Cup playoffs, then I will be cheering for the Flyers. I definitely prefer hockey over any other sport and that's really the only time I get hyped up over playoffs.

Okay, I think I need to hit the hay- may we all sleep safely tonight :)

Hey there- I can feel yoru fear down here. Randomly enough, this weekend's paper (after I read your post) had an article about a spike in fires around here, too. They're up 22% this year, and it linked it to the economy somehow (I forget the connection- I forget 65% of everything I read lately).

ANYWAY, that doesn't help you out, but maybe this will. First, do everything you can to protect from /alert yourself to fires. Start here: http://www.firesafety.gov/ There's even a page for kids with coloring and what not. I'd even call up the fire dept and ask them- maybe they have specific tips for your area (i.e. do motion lights keep these folks away?) or will do a walk-through to assess your readiness. I know, I know- in your free time, lol!

The second thing I'd say is to pray, pray, pray. A quick google search tells me St Florian and/or St Catherine of Sienna are the patron saints of fire prevention... so it's worth something if it helps you sleep better, right? PS- I have heard of the Florian connection before, find the story here: http://www.aquinasandmore.com/index.cfm/saintName/Florian/fuseaction/store.PatronSaintPage/Saint/25/ also- he stood up against being burned when he was martyred. I know, it's offbeat, but if it helps you connect to Jesus' peace, it's worth something, I think...
