Need Your 2 Cents...

I know I owe you a birth story & you probably want to see some new pics BUT...

nursing could be going better so here is what I need advice on:

HOW do I get Chloe to nurse for more than 5 minutes?? Aside from the undressing her and using a nipple shield, how do I get her to really, truly get what she needs?

Any advice is very much appreciated b/c I can't make enough time in the day to pump AND feed AND wash bottles, etc. I'd like to keep this going if I can!!

Thanks!

Is she falling asleep or acting uninterested? Do you then follow up with a bottle? Is she unable to latch on unless you use a nipple shield? If you really want to talk about these struggles I'd be happy to share my experiences, you can email if you want to em630ruth at aol dot com. I had a really hard time with Katy and had to push through many issues, and then I was glad that I did. BUT I think that if it gets to a certain point and if you are totally overwhelmed with pumping that you can't function, then of course you have to evaluate what's best for your family.

Andrew was my hardest to keep awake...I used to strip him down, use cold washclothes, and blow on his face....that one actually worked the best...I'd feed in the football hold, so he was facing me, and I'd stroke his cheek and blow on his face to wake him up. Major startle reflex. ;) Mean mommy.

With all three kids, though, I finally hard to resort to feeding them every 2 hours (that's start of feeding to start of feeding)...then even if they were only on for 5 minutes, they were still stimulating my milk supply.

I could never get an ounce out pumping...it seems like the worst of all worlds ;) You at least know that babies turn out fine on formula...just do what you can so you feel good about it...and then move on ;)
